About the Vicki Shapiro Youth Drama Scholarship Fund
Vicki Shapiro passed away in a car accident in 1962 when she was 16 years old. She was a shining star who loved to perform. After her death, her family worked with the Weinstein JCC to create the performing arts program, Vicki Shapiro Drama Workshop, for teens who wanted to be involved in the theater. Eventually, the Vicki Shapiro Drama Workshop transitioned to Jewish Family Theater (JFT).
Anything Goes was one of the musical productions performed as part of the workshop, over 50 years ago. Jerry Williams, director of the 1971 production, came out of retirement to direct this year's JFT's production, Anything Goes - 50th Anniversary performed Dec 8-18.
In honor of Vicki Shapiro's love of the theater, the Weinstein JCC has established the Vicki Shapiro Youth Drama Scholarship Fund that provides financial assistance to youth, under the age of 18, to participate in Jewish Family Theatre's tuition-based youth programs.
